Baltimore Ravens To Celebrate 30th Season With Commemorative Logo – SportsLogos.Net News

The Baltimore Ravens will celebrate their 30th season this fall with a commemorative logo, which they unveiled on Saturday, the 29th anniversary of their nickname being selected in a fan poll.

“Our 30th season isn’t just a notable milestone for the organization but a moment to celebrate an incredible journey we’ve shared with our fans and community,” senior vice president of marketing Brad Downs said in a statement.

“We’re excited to recall upon the passion, success and fond memories that have brought us to this point, while also looking forward to our future with even greater enthusiasm.”

While they actually relocated from Cleveland and rebranded from the Browns ahead of the 1996 season, the NFL views the Ravens as an expansion franchise while the Browns’ name, colors history remained in Cleveland for a future franchise that was revived in 1999.

On March 29, 1996, The Baltimore Sun revealed the results of the aforementioned poll, which received more than 21,000 votes in favor of the Ravens, inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s poem of the same name, which he wrote while living in Baltimore.

“Ravens gives us a strong nickname that is not common to teams at any level, and it gives one that means something, historically, to this community,” late owner Art Modell said at the time, with Americans and Marauders among the other options, receiving roughly 5,500 votes apiece.

As for the commemorative logo, it is shaped like the Ravens’ original logo, which was scrapped after an amateur artist sued the franchise for copyright infringement after they used his design without credit, as well as their secondary mark.

The cross bottony from the Crossland Banner at the bottom of the shield was also in that location on the original logo, while it was joined by George Calvert’s (Lord Baltimore) coat of arms on the secondary mark, mimicking the Maryland State Flag.

Naturally, a gold No. 30 is prominently featured in the middle of the commemorative logo above a gold banner, which includes “Seasons” flanked by “1996” and “2025,” which obviously mark the Ravens’ inaugural and upcoming seasons.

At the top of the shield, which is mostly purple and black with gold accents, is Baltimore’s current primary logo flanked by the Roman numerals “XXXV” and “XLVII,” signifying the franchise’s Super Bowl victories in 2000 and 2012.

It’s unclear if the Ravens will wear the logo as a patch on their jerseys, just like they did during their 10th and 20th seasons in 2005 and 2015, respectively. They also revealed a logo for their 25th season in 2020, but that was never worn.
