Boston College Eagles Switching From Adidas To New Balance Football Uniforms – SportsLogos.Net News

Although it hasn’t officially been announced, Boston College head football coach Bill O’Brien recently revealed the Eagles will be moving on from their football-only deal with adidas and unveiling new New Balance uniforms ahead of this season.

“We’re going with New Balance here pretty soon in the summertime,” O’Brien said during an appearance on 25 Whistles with Bobby Bones (A Football Podcast) in March. “New Balance has done a great job of helping us go back to the (Doug) Flutie uniforms, the ones we wore back in the day, which I think were pretty cool.”

New Balance replaced Under Armour as the official provider of 30 of Boston College’s 31 varsity programs in 2021, with football being the lone holdout from the 10-year, $45 million deal that also granted student-athletes access to the apparel company’s state-of-the-art training facility at Boston Landing.

“This agreement is a great fit for Boston College,” former athletic director Pat Kraft said at the time. “New Balance is a Brighton neighbor that shares our values. Like BC, it rose from humble beginnings and has grown into an international powerhouse that remains committed to integrity and corporate responsibility.”

New Balance hasn’t outfitted a Football Bowl Subdivision program since 2008 (Central Michigan), but the brand’s popularity has grown in recent years, particularly among Gen Z. That wasn’t exactly the case when the Eagles signed their deal in 2021, which is why the football program opted for adidas instead.

While Boston College’s adidas uniforms featured the vintage “BC” logo on the collar and sleeves, the logo’s placement and lack of sleeve and pants stripes truly separated them from the Flutie-era design. This oversimplification was especially noticeable since the Eagles wore 1984 throwback uniforms in 2015 and from 201820.

Boston College also wore maroon or white pants on occasion, but O’Brien suggested the Eagles – who were notably outfitted by Champion in the 1990s and Reebok in the 2000s – will wear gold pants more often moving forward.
