Just over a month ago, the city of El Paso, Texas, was declared the Boot Capital of Texas, a designation that came from a totally neutral and authoritative source, the El Paso County Commissioners Court. The practice and art of making boots dates back to the late 1800s in the Texas border town.
The Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas, Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres in the Pacific Coast League, took that statewide claim and expanded it exponentially, declaring their hometown the “Boot Capital of the World.” With that claim, the Chihuahuas unveiled an alternate identity, the El Paso Bootmakers.
The logos, set in colors the team is calling rust and hazel, feature an anthropomorphic boot character wielding a needle like a baseball bat and chewing on needles like toothpicks. A wordmark and elements on the jersey evoke the intricate stitching found on the expertly crafted boots made in El Paso. The team released the graphic below with further details.
The Bootmakers will take to the field for Friday games on May 23, June 20, and August 8.
