Fallout Season 2 Filming Delayed By Massive LA Fires

Filming on the next season of Amazon and Bethesda’s popular Fallout TV show has been delayed due to the ongoing and massive fires near Los Angeles, California.

On January 7, Deadline reported that production and filming on Fallout’s second season was set to begin on January 8. The production had paused for a holiday break and was set to start back up on that day. However, the large fires affecting Southern California and the greater Los Angeles area have caused a delay. It’s now reported that the plan is to start filming again on February 10, though that might change depending on the fires and the weather.

Fallout’s first season arrived to critical acclaim in April 2024. The series is based on the hit games from Bethesda, and just a few weeks after it premiered, it was picked up for a second season.

As spotted by GameSpot, FilmLA—the agency responsible for all film permits in Los Angeles—has warned that resources normally available to film and TV productions in the area would not be accessible due to the horrible fires which have destroyed hundreds of homes and other buildings and killed at least two people. The LA County Fire Department has also withdrawn all filming permits in areas affected by or near the fire.

Variety reports that production has been stopped on other TV shows, including Abbott Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, Hacks, and Suits LA. Even in cases where a production’s sets or soundstages may not be directly threatened by the fires, the smoke and ash are dangerous to breathe, and these delays are intended to protect cast and crew. Universal Studios has also shut down to protect guests, employees, and crew members.

Since Tuesday, major fires have burned over 10,000 acres of Southern California, forcing many to flee their homes for safety. One of these fires is already the most destructive wildfire in LA history, and one early estimate says the fires have already caused over $5o billion in damages. Firefighters from other states, including Oregon, are rushing to California to help contain the devastating blaze.
