The iPhone has looked pretty much the same since the iPhone 12, but that might be about to change soon. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will finally be bringing some major design changes to the iPhone lineup.
In his Power On newsletter, Gurman reports that Apple has planned three years of major iPhone redesigns starting with the iPhone 17 Air that is expected to launch next month. The slim Air model is rumored to replace the iPhone 16 Plus variant.
The iPhone 17 Air is said to offer a single rear camera and feature Apple’s first in-house modem. It will offer a smaller battery and no physical SIM card slot. The iPhone 17 will look similar to the iPhone 16, but the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will feature a redesigned rear camera module.
In 2026, Apple will launch the foldable iPhone, notes Gurman. It is reportedly codenamed V68 and will feature four cameras in total – two at the back, one on the outside, and one inside.
Prototypes are being tested in black and white finishes, with the foldable set to run on Apple’s custom C2 modem. For the inner display, Apple is said to be using an in-cell touch panel, which should help minimize the crease while improving touch accuracy.
Finally, in 2027, Apple will reportedly launch the iPhone 20 with an all new curved-glass design to commemorate the iPhone’s 20th anniversary. It is said to be a major redesign and will be very different to what we’re used to now.
