My immigrant Korean mother didn’t have much understanding of my day-to-day life, and I struggled with finding things to talk about with her. But when Dooly came into our lives, we had so many stories to share with each other about him. Now she identifies herself as Dooly’s halmeoni (Korean for ‘grandma’) and keeps asking me if she should babysit.”
