Have a Lovely Weekend. | Cup of Jo

What are you up to this weekend? (Also, how cute are baby puffins?) Toby is watching the Yankees game tonight, and Anton and I are going to sit on the stoop and eat popsicles. Hope you have a good one, and here are a few links from around the web…

How do you know your partner is the one? With Freddie, here are five random moments where I’ve wondered. I’d LOVE to hear your answers. (Paywalled because it’s so personal, but the last few have been free for all)

Oooh, a lemon yogurt anything cake.

Gap’s summer collection is great, like this bright striped shirt and romantic dress.

How a family of five makes their 750-square-foot New York City apartment work, including a triple bunk bed.

The best advice on how to be happy, including “start a weird ritual.” (NYTimes gift link)

My Mother’s Day wishlist: chocolate caviar and the tiniest star bracelet.

This little beach shop is cool.

Are you watching The Four Seasons starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell? The Netflix comedy follows three couples on vacation together.

Can we make advertising fun again?

Do or don’t: a cream cheese and olive sandwich.

An interview with the inimitable Cole Escola. “My most-used emojis are: Knife.”

Why public opinion still matters even more than it did before. “With these polls, we see what we should expect: that Trump has wildly over-interpreted his mandate to the extent he had one and is driving an immense backlash. The opposers are the majority, in some polls approaching 60% of the population. When people realize this, opposers become more likely to speak out, to take stands, to have confidence that they may in fact be on the winning side.”

True, haha.

Plus, three reader comments…

Says Alana on do you have a house salad? “My trick for a delicious salad is to top it with broken salt-and-vinegar chips. Kettle chips work best, in my opinion. Guests love it — it makes a simple salad feel like an indulgent restaurant salad. My favorite version includes romaine, Castelvetrano olives, tons of fresh dill, and a dijon vinaigrette.”

Says Kate on two friendship tips: “My mother-in-law says ‘If you talk with someone every day, there is so much to say. If you only talk infrequently, it can be harder.’”

Says LKB on a few days in Brooklyn: “I just came to say how much I appreciate this picture of you: big smile and — gasp — wrinkles in the sides of your cheeks. After 44 years of frequent big toothy grins, I have those same vertical lines on my cheeks, and I’m so self-conscious about them. Often I see air-brushed images of older women, but few examples of mid-40s faces for real. Thank you for unabashedly showing an image of yourself with these smile lines. I consider you a model of how to be a confident mother and woman, and I need that role model.”
