Have a Lovely Weekend. | Cup of Jo

What are you up to this weekend? The boys and I are going to a whiffle ball tournament on Long Island — they are SO excited, and I’ve packed all the sunscreen and water bottles (#SportsMom). In other news, my friend Alison went to the gym today and ended up working out alongside Bowen Yang! Miraculously, she kept her cool and didn’t do this. Hope you have a good one, and here are a few links from around the web…

This waffle sweatshirt feels so good — looking forward to wearing it on long autumn walks.

I’m terrible at crosswords (not the way my brain works), but I really enjoy The New Yorker’s mini puzzles.

Now THAT’S a basement. (NYTimes gift link)

I love the “surprise me” button on the top of Smitten Kitchen.

What Princeton was like, as a Black student from the South. “When I met other students and professors, and we introduced ourselves, it took a while to get used to the routine. Their reactions, depending on how much time they had spent down South, would head down one of two distinct avenues. If they hadn’t lived lower than the Carolinas, they’d say ‘Alabama?!’ with outright surprise or, if they were able to fix their expressions soon enough, a ‘Whoa, Alabama’ with careful wariness. As I confirmed they had heard me right, they seemed to be imagining the extremity of what being a Black girl from Alabama must entail.”

Everything in this shop made me laugh, especially this hat.

Lovely description of siblings. “I often think our household is made up of two marriages — ours and theirs.”

A font made of…onions.

Here’s the trailer for With Love, Megan season two. Samin Nosrat, Chrissy Teigen, Tan France, it’s star studded!

The perfect brown shirt.

Oooh, that Friday feeling.

And, finally, the genius advice my therapist gave me when my marriage ended. I still use it all the time. (Big Salad)

Plus, two reader comments:

Says Anon on the sweetest baby shower idea: “As a a single mom by choice, I wanted to have a ‘welcome to the world’ party after my baby was born. I brought a big scrapbook and asked folks to share anything (literally anything) they thought the baby should know. People brought everything from photographs and stories to drawings and advice. My kid’s big now and it’s still one of our treasures!”

Says Lykke on do you ever visit gardens? “This one literally took my breath away – Les Jardins d’Étretat.”

Says Jason Kottke on four fun things: *sandwich police pulls up* “You’re gonna need some more tomatoes on those.”

Says Emily on visiting gardens: “Since y’all threatened me with a good time, I made a map of all the garden suggestions from the comments. I’ll continue to update!” [Ed. note: Oh my gosh, thank you Emily!]
