Have a Loving Weekend. | Cup of Jo

What are you up to this weekend? Anton and I have been playing a lot of ping pong, and my birthday is on Saturday, so we’ll all be having cake. We’re also sharing the link list today, since tomorrow is a national shutdown as a way to protest the funding of ICE. Hope you are hanging in there — take gentle care — and here are a few links from around the web…

Minnesota proved MAGA wrong. Bravo. Also, Stand with Minnesota put together a list of local organizations that help folks get groceries, buy diapers, pay rent, get rides to work, etc.; and here is a St. Paul public schools fundraiser to support families who have lost their incomes.

People photographed with their vehicles.

We made pea and potato curry last night, and it was delicious.

Everything we know about rape is wrong. “The majority of women who are sexually assaulted don’t fight back, Percy notes. (In addition to ‘fight or flight’ responses to danger, advocacy groups indicate that other common responses to rape include ‘freeze,’ ‘flop,’ and ‘friend,’ or trying to placate one’s attacker.) She compiles a list of accounts from her reporting of things women have done after they were raped. ‘I made him chicken soup,’ one woman tells her. ‘I comforted him because he was crying,’ another says.” (Atlantic gift link)

Love these pajamas for a relaxing night in.

Helena Bonham Carter and Chris Messina have been cast in White Lotus season four.

What a pretty hairstyle.

Three great documentaries to stream. (NYTimes gift link)

Our favorite things this month, including Heated Rivalry and shepherd’s pie. (Big Salad, gift link)

Tinder hasn’t worked, so I’m putting myself on Zillow,” hahaha.

The tiniest nail. xoxo

Plus, three reader comments:

Says Emily on is this the sexiest move you can do: “My husband was teaching our three-year-old how to wink the other night and said, ‘See, like this,’ and turned and winked at me across our messy, chaotic dinner table. I tell you what, it worked.”

Says Lee on is this the sexiest move you can do: “One of my favorite recent memories is when my husband and I were in Costco (a known wellspring of romance) and went in different directions. A few minutes later, I saw a man and thought, oh, he’s cute — and then realized it was my husband of almost 20 years. I’d still pick him out of a crowd! Or at least out of a crowd of people buying commercial-sized jars of mayo!”

Says Valerie on is this the sexiest move you can do: “I’ve been cultivating the same kind of smoldering gaze with the girl in the mirror. I sashay and prowl and dance my sexiest in my pink-lit loft bedroom, all while locking eyes with myself. It’s been so healing for my relationship with my body, and damn it’s so hot.”
