The Minnesota Vikings will wear their “Purple People Eater” throwback uniforms when they host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football, which kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
The uniforms, which pay homage to the defense that led the Vikings to 10 division titles and four Super Bowl appearances between 1968-78, feature a deeper purple hue than their standard uniforms, gold-trimmed block numbers and a classic striping pattern on the purple jerseys and white pants.
Minnesota wore similar throwback uniforms for at least one game each season from 2007-11, though that design had solid white numbers and glossy purple helmets, whereas the team simply puts throwback decals and a gray facemask on its standard satin purple helmets to complete the look this time around.
The Vikings are 1-2 in the throwback uniforms since they were revived, including losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears in 2023 and a win over the Houston Texans in 2024. They notably wore a patch on their jerseys in the loss to the Buccaneers in honor of legendary coach Bud Grant, who passed away that spring.
In addition to the uniforms, Minnesota painted classic stripes in the end zones and installed retro wall wraps at U.S. Bank Stadium for the previous throwback games. Those classic touches will likely return for tonight’s matchup with the Falcons, who will counter with black helmets with white jerseys, pants and socks.
