Makes sense. John Hughes muse Molly Ringwald says that she doesn’t think that anyone should try to remake one of the iconic director’s movies, and that he probably wouldn’t have wanted people to anyway. “Well, they can’t be [remade] because they can’t be made without the permission of [the late] John Hughes, and he didn’t want the films to be remade,” the Pretty in Pink star told People. “And I don’t think that they should be really.” But if there had to be a remake of one film, she’d hope that the hypothetical filmmaker would focus more on the heart of the movie rather than a literal shot-for-shot remake. “I feel like if somebody does something, I would prefer that they do something … that takes from Breakfast Club and then builds on [it], and represents this generation’s issues rather than to try to recreate what was of a different time,” she concluded. Technically, the only other remake that could be made would be Miracle on 34th Street, since the movie is a reimagining of the classic story and was adapted by Hughes. Loophole?
