Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani’s popularity shows no signs of slowing down as it was announced today that his jersey ranked on top of the most popular jersey list for the first half of the 2024 season. This marks the second consecutive season in which Ohtani has led the list, making him the first Japanese player to do so since MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association began releasing jersey rankings in 2010.
Following behind Ohtani in the most popular player jersey list, released jointly by MLB and the MLBPA, are Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees, ranking second and third, respectively. No surprise that both players are the top All-Star vote-getters in their respective leagues.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, boasting the second-best record in the National League, have three players in the top 20: Ohtani, Mookie Betts (ranked fourth), and Freddie Freeman (ranked 20th). The Philadelphia Phillies, currently holding the best record overall in baseball, see multiple players in the top 20 for the first time since 2011. Joining Harper from the Phillies is starting All-Star shortstop Trea Turner, who ranks 13th.

Several teams are well-represented on this list, with multiple players making it into the top 20. The aforementioned Los Angeles Dodgers lead the way with three players: Ohtani, Betts, and Freeman. The New York Yankees also have a strong presence, with Aaron Judge and Juan Soto securing spots at third and sixth, respectively. The Philadelphia Phillies have Bryce Harper and Trea Turner, while the San Diego Padres feature Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado. The Atlanta Braves are represented by Ronald Acuña Jr. and Matt Olson, and the Toronto Blue Jays by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.
Cincinnati Reds speedy sensation Elly De La Cruz and Baltimore Orioles All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman are both climbing in popularity, ranking 15th and 16th, respectively, after their first appearances on the list last season. Notably, nine of the top 20 players hail from outside the United States, representing Japan, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico.
