Penn State Unveils Baseball-Themed Jersey for Wrigley Field Game – SportsLogos.Net News

The men’s hockey team at Penn State is taking inspiration from the host stadium and a fellow Nittany Lions team for special edition jerseys they’ll wear for an outdoor game in January.

Penn State will be taking part in the 2025 Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Friday, January 3, 2025. To mark the occasion, the Nittany Lions unveiled special jerseys on Friday, December 27, that give a nod both to the baseball team at Penn State and to the hallowed baseball stadium they’ll be playing in.

The jerseys have a navy blue base and “Nittany Lions” written in a script font across the chest, along with a player number underneath. All these design elements were borrowed from the Penn State baseball team’s alternate jersey.

The front number itself features a subtle pattern of ivy leaves as a nod to Wrigley Field itself.

The jersey’s white shoulder yoke is a tribute to Penn State’s club hockey teams of the 1950s Each shoulder has a “Walking Lion” logo, with a lion on top of a navy blue S, that is a nod to the Chicago Cubs’ walking bear logo. Each sleeve has two thick white stripes — a tribute to the 1979-80 Penn State Icers team — while the waist has one white stripe.

The collar is navy blue and white with white laces at the front, and the inside of the collar features white baseball stitching on a navy blue background.

Oversized numbers on the front, back and sleeves are set in the same number font used by the Cubs, and the C on the captain’s jersey will be the same shape as the one the Cubs use on their caps. Arched namebars on the backs of the jerseys are another nod to Wrigley Field’s most famous tenants.

The jerseys will be paired with the tan faux-leather gloves and tan pants that went along with the throwback alternate jerseys Penn State unveiled in November. The pants include an interlocking “PSU” logo on the right leg. The helmets will be navy blue with a raised “Penn State” script sticker on each side. The socks are navy blue with the same pair of thick white stripes found on the sleeves.

The Nittany Lions also shared photos of the mask that goaltender Arsenii Sergeev will wear for the outdoor game. It includes ivy leaves and the Walking Lion logo on the sides, as well as baseball seams and the Frozen Confines logo on the back.

Penn State’s opponents at Wrigley Field, Notre Dame, unveiled their Chicago-themed jerseys for the game earlier this month. Puck drop for their game will be at 8:30 p.m. ET on Friday, January 3.

The Frozen Confines series consists of a total of four games over the two days. Aside from Penn State and Notre Dame, the men’s teams from Ohio State and Michigan will renew their rivalry on January 3. The following days sees men’s teams from Wisconsin and Michigan State face off, as well as the women’s teams from Ohio State and Wisconsin.

The college games take place just days after the NHL Winter Classic between the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues, which will also be held at Wrigley Field on December 31, 2024.
