PlayStation Lego Set Is Rumored And The Jokes Write Themselves

Lego Astro Bot and PlayStation sets are in the works, according to leaker BrickTapNews. The PlayStation set will reportedly be 1,911 pieces and cost $160. Astro Bot, meanwhile, will be a gift-with-purchase, meaning you have to buy the $160 PlayStation set to get it.

Both sets are reported to be arriving on October 1. The $160 price tag puts the PlayStation set somewhere between the recently announced Sega Genesis set ($40) and the existing Atari set ($240). A Lego NES was also released for $230. At the rate the Danish toy brick company has been pursuing licensed collaborations, it seems like a good bet that we’ll get a Lego version of most of the iconic gaming consoles at some point, except maybe the Xbox, which already has a deal in place with Mega Bloks.

But of course, what most Lego collectors have been joking about since the rumor leaked this week is about the timing, considering Sony is currently facing a backlash among some fans over its decision to end new PlayStation game discs in 2028. “They picked quite the time for a PlayStation tie-in,” one person wrote on the LegoLeak subreddit. “You don’t get to actually own the Lego, just a subscription to them,” wrote someone else. “So is there a physical set or is it just a download code in the box?” asked a third.

On a more serious note, some are confused why Astro Bot is only being offered as a gift-with-purchase rather than as an optional standalone set. A couple of collectors are already lamenting having to try and pick it up second-hand for inflated prices on eBay if they choose to forgo getting the Lego PlayStation set. What would actually be super neat is if Sony added another free level to Astro Bot that was all Lego-themed.
