QMJHL’s Rouyn-Noranda Huskies Turn Back Time With Saint-Hyacinthe Laser Jerseys For Retro Night – SportsLogos.Net News

Instead of flipping the calendar forward on New Year’s Eve, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League instead are going back in time to honour the franchise’s previous iteration.

The Huskies will host their Retro Game on Tuesday, December 31, against their rivals from up Route 117, the Val d’Or Foreurs. When they take the ice, though, they’ll do so wearing the jerseys of the Saint-Hyacinthe Laser — but with a Huskies twist.

The Laser played in the QMJHL from 1989 to 1996 before moving to Rouyn-Noranda. Before Saint-Hyacinthe, though, they were various iterations of the Junior Canadiens, based either in Montreal proper or in the suburb of Verdun. As such, the Laser wore red jerseys with blue stripes across the chest, much like the NHL club they used to be named after.

The version of the jerseys that the Huskies will wear on New Year’s Eve retain the red base, but the stripe around the chest is black with white outlines. The Laser logo appears on the black stripe, with black lettering outlined in white and four red laser lights forming the left half of the A.

The black stripe outlined in white also runs around each sleeve, under the sleeve number, while narrower black and white stripes run around the waist. The Huskies’ secondary logo, consisting of an H with a howling husky head, appears on each shoulder.

The numbers on the sleeves and back are white with black outlines, while the names on the back are one-color white.

A video posted to the Huskies’ Facebook page appeared to show the jersey paired with black pants and red socks with the same striping as the sleeves. It also appears to show red-and-black gloves and black helmets.

Game-worn jerseys are being auctioned off online, with bids closing on Friday, January 3, at 11 p.m. ET.

Puck drop for the Huskies’ Retro Game is at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, December 31, at the Aréna Glencore in Rouyn-Noranda.
