Per Colin Stephenson, the Rangers have claimed Tye Kartye off waivers from the Seattle Kraken. Kartye, turning 25 in April, is a bottom line winger who is fine on defense but doesn’t really do much on offense. Seeing as he’s “just” 24 years old, it’s likely Kartye is another flier by Chris Drury to maybe find a needle in a haystack, much like with the recent Vincent Iorio claim.
Kartye is likely just another flier and a body to fill out the roster after the deadline, but he could also signal that a bottom six wing–probably Taylor Raddysh or Conor Sheary–is going to be moved at the deadline.
One other thing: Kartye is definitely a fourth line winger, which means after the deadline, assuming the Rangers make the trades we expect them to make, any prospects that are recalled would have spots in the top nine, not the fourth line. Food for thought.
Brennan Othmann was returned to Hartford. As so the yo yo begins. Wonder how good he and Brett Berard have gotten with their yo-yos.
