The Rangers have re-signed defenseman Vincent Iorio to a one year, two way contract. The contract is similar to Scott Morrow’s one year contract, with an $850,000 NHL salary and a $125,000 AHL salary. The 6’4, 220 lb right handed defenseman played in 6 games with the Rangers–honestly it felt like more–and did not register a point. The Rangers were Iorio’s third team last season when he was claimed off waivers. The 23 year old has some potential, but really needs to improve his skating to keep up at the NHL level.
The Rangers clearly view both Vincent Iorio and Scott Morrow equally, which is a bit odd when Iorio did not look good at all in his six games. Morrow didn’t look great either, but he looked better than Iorio, which is saying something. The goal is to have one or both improve enough to push the Rangers to move on from Braden Schneider before his trade value collapses.
