State College Spikes to honor Super Bowl champs and taunt Philly mayor with ELGSES jerseys – SportsLogos.Net News

The collegiate summer level State College Spikes, who play about 200 miles from Philadelphia in central Pennsylvania, will use an alternate identity to celebrate the Philadelphia Eagles and their decisive victory in Super Bowl LIX (Go Birds)—as well as poke a little fun at Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker. The team will wear kelly green jerseys (Go Birds) emblazoned with the legend “ELGSES,” a reference to Mayor Parker famously botching the iconic E-A-G-L-E-S chant that Eagles fans proclaim when their team scores (Go Birds). In the script, the State College Spikes cap logo stands in for the first S in ELGSES.

The announcement from the team carefully avoids acknowledging that the temporary brand is based on the heavily trademarked Super Bowl and the Philadelphia Eagles (Go Birds). But if the color and typography did not make their intentions clear, the game will include a number of allusions to Philadelphia and their team’s football triumph.

Concession stands will serve the Philly Special (26 percent off Philly cheesesteaks) and ice cream with green jimmies, and provide discounts on Philadelphia favorites like Aquafina “wooder,” Garage Beer, Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews, and Tastykakes. The night will feature tributes to the City of Brotherly Love with buy-one-get-one tickets for brothers, and the ballpark’s foul poles will be painted green for the game.

In-game activities will include the “DeJean Pick 6 Special,” a reference to the defensive highlight of Super Bowl LIX (Go Birds), in which a fan will win tickets to a football game in Philadelphia if an ELGSES player hits a home run in the sixth inning. There will also be Jason Kelce and Kylie Kelce lookalike contests, a reverse hurdle competition, a tush push seat cushion giveaway, and of course, a Philadelphia-themed spelling bee.

The ELGSES will take the field August 23. Go Birds.
