If Spider-Man, Woody, and Odysseus are walking into your movie theater, get ready for a profitable summer. This year, the summer box office is hitting a new high of $4.76 billion and is nearly beating another summer box office record that’s been untouched for over a decade. This year’s summer b.o. officially surpassed the 2013 domestic summer b.o. record of $4.755 billion, per Variety. The 2013 big b.o. heavy hitters include Iron Man 3, Despicable Me 2, and Man of Steel.
But if there was one top dog at the cinema this summer, it’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film has earned its sixth week at the top of the box office, bringing in $923 million since its release and nearing a billion dollars. Spidey and friends are also $13 million away from becoming the highest total domestic box office, a record currently held by Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens — again, another decade-long record about to be broken. Never underestimate the power of Peter Parker.
