What Are Your Top Ways to Eat Potatoes?

When I wrote a post about first-date conversation starters, a reader named Ann left the funniest comment…

“So, my first-date question is the same question I use at parties or with new friends, and it is ‘What are your top three ways to eat a potato?’ It is WONDERFUL because you get this beautiful patchwork quilt of someone’s life. In my experience, people don’t just say, ‘fried, mashed, baked,’ but rather, ‘the steak fries at the diner where I used to go with my best friend in high school’ or ‘the kettle chips that my aunt had at her house whenever I slept over’ kind of thing. Those details make for the juiciest and most delicious first date. Plus, it’s a silly question, and everyone needs a laugh.”

Brilliant, right? What would your answer be?

Mine would definitely include English potato chips, because I spent almost every summer of my childhood eating them at my grandparents’ house, and now my children are doing the same.

Plus, the flavors are amazing, like roast chicken and prawn cocktail.

And my brother’s pro tip? Put them in a mug so no one will know you have them (and therefore won’t steal any).
