Virginia Grise, Wendy Shenefelt, and Vicki Meek will set the tone and ask: How does our art sustain us? How does our art nourish our beloved communities and our social movements? What community-driven strategies can we implement to thrive and not just survive? And if we know the roadblocks, what are some solutions that push past them? This session will end with all attendees setting intentions for the days ahead and a performance from poet Lyrique Jaye.
8:45 a.m.-10 a.m. PDT (San Francisco, UTC -7) / 10:45 a.m.-12 p.m. CDT (Dallas, UTC -5) / 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. (New York, UTC -4)
As we bid farewell, we will consider the next steps toward realizing our artistic aspirations with and within our communities. Clyde Valentin, co-artistic director and members of the team from of Arts for Every Body, will connect the four corners of Arts for Every Body’s praxis: Artistic Practice + Community Participation + Cross-Sector Collaboration + Health with the broader themes explored and discussed during our time together. Part presentation, part workshop, part lab—we will close our time together with focus and inspiration moving forward. Our discussion will help us draw a map of our next steps on our path towards Sustaining the Arts through Community Building.
