Jennifer Lawrence’s ‘Die, My Love’: Everything We Know

Weee wooo weee woo! Jennifer Lawrence has broken new ground in the Richter Scale for her latest motherquake film, Die, My Love. Despite playing a mother and a wife since her early 20s, Lawrence, after embracing these roles in her real life, goes all the way in her upcoming leading role, embracing all the scary, unnerving, and traumatic aspects of motherhood. Directed by Lynne Ramsay, Die, My Love premiered at Cannes in May and was a hot ticket item, with Mubi beating out other distributors for the win. It’s become the company’s biggest acquisition ever; so why is everyone goo-goo for gaga over Die, My Love?

Written by Ramsay, Enda Walsh, and Alice Birch, Lawrence plays Grace, a new mother who’s having a mental breakdown after moving to rural Montana from New York City with her husband Jackson. However, make no mistake, this film isn’t about postpartum depression, says Ramsay. She told Deadline: “This whole postpartum thing is just bullshit. It’s not about that. It’s about a relationship breaking down, it’s about love breaking down, and sex breaking down after having a baby. And it’s also about a creative block.”

Die, My Love stars Lawrence as Grace, Robert Pattinson as her husband Jackson, Sissy Spacek as Pam, Jackson’s mother. Cast also includes LaKeith Stanfield as a motorcyclist named Karl, Nick Nolte as Harry, Gabrielle Rose as Jen, Debs Howard as Marsha, Sarah Lind as Cheryl, and Marcus Della Rosa as The Lifeguard.

Lawrence felt extremely connected to her character Grace, as she started filming soon after having her first child. “As a mother, it was really hard to separate what I would do as opposed to what [my character] would do,” she explained during the press conference at Cannes earlier this year. “And it was just heartbreaking…I had just had my firstborn, and there’s not really anything like postpartum. It’s extremely isolating. She doesn’t have a community. She doesn’t have her people. But the truth is, extreme anxiety and extreme depression is isolating, no matter where you are. You feel like an alien.”

As for how she was able to connect with co-star Pattinson so quickly, Lawrence shares how their pre-production prep with Ramsay made all the difference. “[Ramsay] had us do dance lessons before we started shooting which was so humiliating and embarrassing,” Lawrence explained in an interview with Brut. “Then on our first day of shooting, we were naked, attacking each other like tigers.”

Die, My Love has a due date of November 7, 2025, only in theaters.
