The vivo X300 Ultra was officially unveiled on Monday with plans to ship it in China first and expand to the global markets soon after. Yes, the X Ultra is going wide for the first time. So, are you tempted?
In China, the base 12/256GB model costs CNY 7,000 and started shipping on Friday. This converts to $1,020 / £775 / €885 / ₹95,000. These won’t be the actual prices of the X300 Ultra on the global markets, of course, those will be revealed later. And, again, we can’t use a previous model as context since neither the X100 Ultra nor the X200 Ultra was available globally.
But a vivo X300 Pro (16/512GB) has an MSRP of €1,400 in Europe (currently, there is a €100 discount), so the Ultra will be one of the most expensive phones on the market.
And it will be one of the best camera phones on the market too – it has 14mm + 35mm + 85mm lenses, two of which sit in front of 200MP sensors (1/1.12” in the main and 1/1.4” in the telephoto).
There’s also the Photographer Kit with two teleconverter lenses, the Zeiss G2 (200mm) and Zeiss G2 Ultra (400mm). But you don’t need the Ultra to use these lenses – the G2 is compatible with the select X300 models and the X200 Ultra, while the G2 Ultra will be adapted to support the X300 Pro and X200 Ultra. Here’s the full compatibility list.
Also, the phone has a fairly large 6,600mAh Si/C battery with 100W wired and 40W wireless charging. This will be a bit smaller once the phone reaches Europe, though – the EPREL listing has it at 6,400mAh.
We know that unless you’re reading this from China, it’s too early to be making final decisions on whether or not to buy the vivo X300 Ultra. One of its main competitors, the Oppo Find X9 Ultra, isn’t even official yet – that one will be unveiled for China and select global markets on April 21. The Honor Magic8 Ultra is in the works too, but its launch date hasn’t even been set officially.
Still, it’s a great time to “check the pulse” on this phone – is the vivo X300 Ultra a phone that you can see yourself buying or is it the smartphone equivalent of a supercar (cool to see but not something that you’ll ever own)?
