What are you up to this weekend? The boys and I are going to our friends’ house tonight to play Blank Slate, a board game they’ve raved about. We’ll report back! Also, check your voter registration status and find your poll site here, if you haven’t already. Hope you have a good one, and here are a few fun links from around the web…

On Big Salad, here’s my Hinge profile. Thoughts??

LOVE the cool shape of this sweater, and I want to borrow this one from the guys.

This! A thousand times this.

We made broccoli cheddar soup this week, and it was delicious.

Can you believe this is ice cream?

Perfume recommendations from New Yorkers, including yours truly. What would you add?

Pretty hair accessory.

Abortion bans have made miscarriage more dangerous. Great comic.

What a gorgeous colorful house in England.

How cool is McSweeney’s advent calendar?!

Advice from teachers who are also parents: “It’s really easy to get on the nag train — if you can point out something good kids did, they’re much more likely to do it the next time… When we get into a bad cycle, we start a ‘Noodle Jar.’ A dry noodle goes in the jar each time my kid does something remotely good, and we say, ‘Thank you for…’ That’s it. No punishments, no big deal, just a thank you for something simple. Once the jar is full he gets to pick an outing with a parent. It’s effective for parents, too — it forces you to notice the good things too, even while you say, ‘Thank you for not hitting your brother with that bat,’ through gritted teeth.”

Mom spends 15 minutes hearting every message from last five days of family group chat, hahahaha.

Plus, two reader comments:

Says Rebecca on 10 reader comments on friendship: “My husband’s stepsister recently flew across the country and stayed with us because her best friend was starting chemo near us. I asked about their friendship, and she told me about her friend and then just said ‘besides my husband, she’s the love of my life.’ I thought it was so beautiful and fitting to use that usually romantic phrase to describe a best friend.”

Says Karen T. on I like the word moist: “I’m drinking my coffee (alone, before the household awakes and storms my space), and I cannot stop laughing. The CoJ comments section truly brings me life. So much gratitude for this online community that feels like real-life friends.”
